PAC-10

Week 3 Review - USC and the 9 Dwarfs Return!

If the Governator acknowledges USC's greatness, alas so will I.

First off, boy was I wrong with last week's picks. The Pac 10 really let me down last week and my faith in the national rankings have been shaken. TheCouchQB called the USC game and I blew it, but I made up for it by betting against the local team, UCLA. So all in all, it was a week that didn't make me feel great watching UCLA laying an egg in a national game and that aprehension has delayed this article. But on to the big local scene, USC proved that it was hands down the dominant team in the nation. The only way that Ohio State could keep up was when they were matched up against USC's back ups in mop up mode.

I've heard the saying many times, but the 2nd best team in the Pac 10 might be USC's second string. I know TheCouchQB will call blasphemy on this, but watching USC over the years and seeing as how they reload every year, I am inclined to believe it. Anyways, as conference play is really starting this week, we will see who the real contenders are. Anyways, here's hoping for a better week from the Pac 10!

USC vs. Ohio State - Epic Video!

Ok, I'll admit it. The video wasn't that great or that funny, but it's not like it'll have relevance if I post it next week, and everybody knows that USC vs. OHIO STATE 2008 is the most epic game in the history of college football! Right?!

TCQB's Bold Prediction For Week 3: Ohio State Loses Big

The time is nearly here. The biggest game of the 2008 season thus far is upon us. USC and Ohio State will battle it out this Saturday, winner probably getting a free ride to the national championship game. And I've got my next mortgage payment on USC covering the 10.5 point spread.

Yes, the TCQB bold prediction for week 3, based on little more than my self-proclaimed college football sixth sense, is that USC will beat Ohio State by at LEAST two touchdowns, and Ohio State will never really have been in it, playing for pride only towards the beginning of the fourth quarter.

If Ohio State somehow pulls it out, look for this site to shut down as I feverishly try to cut down on my expenditures so as not to end up living under a freeway overpass.

TCQB Prediction:
USC 38, Ohio State 17

Update: Beanie Wells doubtful for USC game = Money in the bank.

Just How Big Is UCLA's Recruiting Budget?

UCLA beats Tennessee and now they think they're hot stuff. Neu-weasel apparently chartered a helicopter to take him around the southern California area so he could scope out some recruits.

After watching the nation's No. 1 guard, Michael Philipp, play for San Bernardino Arroyo Valley at home against Pasadena High, Neuheisel fought through Los Angeles' traffic to make it to the Inglewood High-Long Beach Wilson game. Neuheisel was there to check out four-star receivers Shaquelle Evans and Jemari Roberts.

He wasn't done.

After watching Evans and Roberts, Neuheisel drove to the Hawthorne Airport and got in a helicopter to fly out to the Inland Empire to watch La Puente Bishop Amat on the road against Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos.

Neuheisel wasn't able to land at the school as expected, and was forced to land at Ontario Airport. By the time he got to the game, it was over.

Courtesy of the benevolent taxpayers of California!

UCLA Surprises Nation, Perhaps Doesn't Suck As Much As Everybody Thought

I'll admit it. I lost a few bills by betting on Tennessee -7 this game. UCLA was supposed to lose, but they didn't. Bad for my bank account, bad for the SEC, good for the PAC-10.

Do the Bruins not suck as much as everybody thought? Or did Tennessee just play that bad? We'll find out in a couple weeks when the Bruins play BYU. If they're the UCLA that I know, they'll come back from an amazing win over a top-25 opponent and piss away any credibility gained by losing to a lesser team. Until then, when it comes to UCLA my wallet is staying in my pocket.

Arizona State's Storm-Proof Indoor Practice Facility Gets Destroyed In Storm

Arizona State's brand new indoor football practice facility, known as the "practice bubble" and specifically designed so the team could avoid storms and keep on practicing, has been taken down in the storm and is unusable for the entire season. Me thinks that some heads need to roll in the Arizona State's engineering program.

Looks like Arizona State isn't a BCS bubble team anymore! Tee hee!

(I was going to say "I hate to burst Arizona State's bubble..." but didn't want to sound like a tool.)

SEC: The Self-Proclaimed Greatest Conference In The Known Universe

Surprise, surprise. Another article filled with quotes from SEC coaches and fans about how great the SEC is, bla bla bla. No doubt the SEC is an awesome conference, but to say an SEC team with two losses absolutely deserves to be in the national championship game over other teams with fewer losses is going beyond reason.

"If you can win the SEC championship, odds are you can play for the national championship, and that says a lot about the league," Bloom said. "When people look at the pre-season magazines, there are a lot of people who say that a two-loss SEC team, depending on what happens elsewhere in the country, can compete for a national championship again."

Washington Players Give Willingham Impressions

None of these guys are going to be getting their own sitcoms anytime soon, but it's mildly amusing nonetheless to watch how broken down a program must be that players will make fun of their own coach on camera for the entire internet to point and laugh at.

WTF Is Up With ABC's Coverage Map?

Is it just me or is there something wrong when there are two great matchups (Michigan St. @ Cal, and Alabama vs. Clemson), but one of them gets about 85% of the country. Does it make sense to anybody how even most of the Big-10 territories aren't showing the Cal/Michigan St. matchup? ABC, what's wrong with you? Why would people in Chicago be more interested in Bama/Clemson? The only thing I can conclude is that ABC/ESPN is trying to bring in some Big-10 territory Pay-Per-View dollars. And that I'm hung like a paint can. *Puts down paint can*
