ACC

Week 2 - Matchups To Watch

Game of the Week
Miami (FL) (1-0) @ #5 Florida (1-0)
Line: Florida -21.5

Five years ago, this would have been clearly the game of the week, but since Urban Meyer took over, the two programs have moved in opposite directions. With Meyer, it seems like Florida will continue to be a title contender while the Canes have dropped to the middle of the pack in the ACC. Whether or not WR Percy Harvin plays or not, Tim Tebow should have plenty of options against an always athletic Miami defense. It will be the play of one of Miami's freshman QB tandem Ricky Marve or Jacory Harris that dictates whether the Canes can hang in there or fold under the pressure.

Announcers Love Alliteration, Won't Shut The Fuck Up About "Beamer Ball"

Can I please watch a Virginia Tech football game without the announcer reflexively mentioning "Beamer Ball" every time a Virginia Tech player does something positive on special teams?

I'm watching the Virginia Tech / East Carolina game. An East Carolina running back fumbles a backwards pass by the quarterback. The ball is on the ground. A Virginia Tech defensive back picks it up and runs into the endzone.

Announcer: "OMFG! That's classic Beamer Ball, folks! I just cummed!"

WTF Is Up With ABC's Coverage Map?

Is it just me or is there something wrong when there are two great matchups (Michigan St. @ Cal, and Alabama vs. Clemson), but one of them gets about 85% of the country. Does it make sense to anybody how even most of the Big-10 territories aren't showing the Cal/Michigan St. matchup? ABC, what's wrong with you? Why would people in Chicago be more interested in Bama/Clemson? The only thing I can conclude is that ABC/ESPN is trying to bring in some Big-10 territory Pay-Per-View dollars. And that I'm hung like a paint can. *Puts down paint can*

Clemson's Koenning Sorry About Escalade Comments

Vic Koenning realizes he said something that the news-starved media will twist and take out of context in an effort to create drama and stay relevant. So he has apologized, because apparently the entire college football community lacks a sense of humor. Here's the quote that got him in trouble:

"Julio? You know what, I actually ran into Julio in the spring recruiting," Koenning said according to an account published in The (Columbia) State and a review of a tape recording of the interview. "I said hello to him and said, I guess I'll be seeing you at the end of August. Then he got out and got in his Escalade and drove off. That's serious.

"And then I went over and watched [Alabama freshman] Burton Scott at Vigor High School at the track over there," Koenning continued, "and Burton Scott was running around. He went and got in his Escalade out at track practice and drove off. So I'm familiar with those two guys."
