Which Games I’m Watching This Week
Posted on Oct 22, 2009 in NCAAF

It’s Friday, and I’m sitting here in my tiny cubicle hoping my boss doesn’t see me writing about college football instead of crunching a wall of numbers into Excel. He just doesn’t understand how serious of a thing college football is for people like you and me. Fucking Ivy-Leaguers.
Unfortunately for myself, my beloved California Golden Bears are playing PAC-10 doormat Washington State this weekend and nobody wanted to take a chance broadcasting that inevitable massacre for fear of not making it past the censors. So below are the games that interest me the most, taking into account BCS implications, potential playmakers, and just overall schadenfreude in cheering for teams I hate to lose.
#11 Oregon @ Washington – I’m wondering if the Oregon Ducks can keep things rolling for themselves and beat the team that beat USC up in their house. True, Washington has dropped a couple since kicking the mighty Trojans in the nuts, but I think the Huskies have enough talent and the much improved coaching needed to be able to pull off this upset, and who doesn’t like seeing an upset? (ABC – 3:30pm EST)
Tennessee @ #2 Alabama – I like watching Tennessee play, and I need Alabama to lose for Cal to have any chance of reaching the Rose Bowl this year as an at-large. Go Vols! (CBS – 3:30pm EST)
Boston College @ Notre Dame – Does the close loss last week against USC start the Irish’s 2009 descent into college football obscurity and irrelevance? (NBC – 3:30pm EST)
#3 Texas @ Missouri – Texas is a great team, but I’m just going to come out and say it. I hate Texas, which is well within my right as a college football fan to love the teams I love and hate the teams I hate. This hatred, however, comes from a place much deeper than that. It comes from the part of me that is a Cal fan, and I still haven’t forgiven Mack Brown for blowing enough AP voters in 2004 to rank Texas ahead of Cal that last week which caused them to jump ahead of Cal, costing us that elusive Rose Bowl berth. Fuck you, Texas. Fuck you, Mack Brown. I hope Missouri crushes you, making way for USC to reach the National Championship and Cal to get into the Rose Bowl as an at-large. (ABC – 8:00pm EST)
Oregon State @ #7 USC – Everybody knows why I’m watching this. We’re all asking ourselves if Oregon State can do it again. I’ll be tuning in and out of this game though since it’s in the same time slot as #3 Texas @ Missouri and I really want Texas to lose, if you couldn’t tell. (ABC – 8:00pm EST)
